Testing
Federal Way Police have partnered with Public Safety Testing to administer the initial testing process for the the position of Police Officer.    Please visit their website to start your career with the City of Federal Way.  

Entry level Applicant

Lateral Applicants   NEW! $40,000 signing bonus*  
We have made it easier for you to test for our team:

  1. A Physical Ability Test (PAT) is not required for lateral applicants.  Register to test here! 
  2. Oral Boards and initial background interview can be done via Zoom;
  3. We will travel to your state for the on-site background process;
  4. With a successful background, only then will you need to travel here to meet the Chief and complete the Polygraph, Medical, and Psychological portions.(normally two or three days).
  5. When hired, you will get $5,000 upon firearms qualification.
  6. Upon successful completion of a 6 month probation period, you will receive another $10,000.
  7. At the one year anniversary, another $10,000 is awarded. 
  8. At the 18-month anniversary, another $15,000 is awarded. 
  9. NEW! Up to 100 hours vacation and 100 hours sick leave match for lateral candidates.  Must be able to demonstrate eligible leave balance at time of separation from prior agency.  

    *Voluntary resignation within three years will require full repayment of any bonuses actually paid prior to the date of resignation.
