PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Construct sidewalk, planter strip, bicycle lane, and street lighting on the south side of SW Dash Point Road between 21st Avenue SW and 100 feet southwest of SW 312th Street. Upgrade existing pedestrian crossing and curb ramps at 21st Avenue SW to current ADA standard. Extend reduced speed school zone through SW 312th Street intersection.

REVISED SCHOOL ZONE:

The City of Federal Way, as part of a Federally funded Safe Routes to School grant and State funded sidewalk grant, is implementing an expanded school zone in the vicinity of Lakota Middle School and Lakota Park.  The project has installed four new School Zone Flashing Beacons and Variable Speed Limit Signs to create an expanded school zone for the pedestrian access to Lakota Middle School.  This reduces the speed to 20 MPH during the morning and afternoon bell times for Lakota Middle School. The expanded area extends to the west along SW 312th Street to 21st Way SW, to the south past the intersection of 21st Ave SW and SW Dash Point Road and to the north along SW Dash Point Road, north of SW 312th Street as depicted in the Revised School Zone Map. The project also reduces the speed limit on SW Dash Point Road within this zone from 40 MPH to 35 MPH permanently.

Please observe the new speed limits, especially when beacons are flashing.

The project is nearing completion with only permanent striping remaining. This work is weather and temperature dependent and will be completed this spring with coming higher temperatures.
