The Federal Way Stream Team is made up of curious and passionate volunteers who monitor our local waterways and help the City meet it's water quality goals. The City offers training and equipment to anyone interested in becoming a community scientist and learning more about our local streams. Stream Team Goals:

  • Educate residents about water quality issues in Federal Way
  • Engage volunteers in watershed stewardship
  • Provide useful water quality data to the Surface Water Management Division

What Do Stream Team Volunteers Do?

  • Spend 1-2 hours per month, September through June, monitoring a particular stream
  • Test the water chemistry, including dissolved oxygen, pH, and turbidity
  • Conduct a visual survey of the location

Who Are Stream Team Volunteers?

  • Residents of Federal Way
  • At least 18 years of age, or accompanied by an adult
  • Able to commit to 2-3 hours per month, throughout the course of the year
  • Excited to learn new skills and give back to their community
