The following is Federal Way’s current and anticipated major street construction (3-28-25) 

(Note: minor road and/or short term street impacts are not reflected here).

CURRENT WORK:

Citywide Pedestrian Safety Project (Project Information) Starting the week of February 24, the City’s contractor is working on the midblock crossing on S 320th, west of Pacific Hwy. Daytime lane closures required.

S 320th / 21st Ave S Pedestrian Signal – The City’s contractor continues to pour signal foundations and complete related sidewalk work for a new signalized pedestrian crossing on S 320th Street at 21st Ave S. Work is expected to continue through spring 2025. Temporary lane closures will be required.

2025 Overlay Program (Project Information)– Starting in April 2025 and continuing through the summer, the city’s contractor, ICON Materials, will be completing pavement overlays in several locations throughout the city. Click on the project information link for maps of the overlay areas.

Sound Transit – Federal Way Link Extension (FWLE)

S 317th and 23rd Ave S – Weekend/Evening Closure

What

  • Sound Transit will close two streets at night in Federal Way for construction on March 29 and 30. This work will shut down westbound S 317th St from 23rd Ave S to 28th Ave S and 23rd Ave S from S 317th St to S 320th St. Eastbound S 317th St will remain open for traffic and pedestrian access. These closures will accommodate ongoing roadway construction related to the Federal Way Link Extension.

  • S 317th St between 23rd Ave S and 28th Ave S. 
  • 23rd Ave S between S 317th Str and S 320th St (see map for more details). 

When

  • The street closures will occur on Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30*, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
