The Federal Way City Council appointed Paul McDaniel as the newest member to fill the vacant Position 2 seat during a special meeting at the Council Chambers on June 26.
The City Council chose McDaniel with a 5-1 vote.
McDaniel, a military veteran, and third-generation Federal Way resident, is a small business owner with more than two decades of experience in technology and consulting. He completed his high school education at Federal Way High School in 1996 and attended Highline College.
"I'm excited to be able to represent my community. I'll do the best job possible for the families of this community," McDaniel, who has lived in Federal Way for 30 years, said.
McDaniel's top priority for Federal Way is ensuring safety in the city. He is committed to addressing community concerns through laws and policies discussed at City Council meetings. McDaniel is always available to listen to any issues that arise.
"I want to make sure our community is safe for our families," said McDaniel.
"We are excited to have Paul McDaniel join the Federal Way City Council," Mayor Jim Ferrell said. "Paul's experience as a small business owner allows him to connect with our community and understand their needs. He will bring tremendous value in helping to improve the quality of life for residents in this community."
McDaniel considers running a 100-mile race, which took him six months to prepare, as one of his significant accomplishments. Coaching kids in wrestling and Jujutsu is what McDaniel considers his other accomplishment.
Initially, 18 individuals submitted their applications, but the City Councilmembers effectively reduced the number of candidates before the special public meeting in Council Chambers. Below is the list of individuals who were interviewed:
- Karen Brugato
- Paul McDaniel
- Anna Patrick
- Lana Bostic
- Gordon Bock
- Saudia Abdullah
Our City Council meeting is scheduled for July 5 at 6:30 p.m. and will include a ceremonial swearing-in of McDaniel as the newest councilmember. Erica Norton resigned from Position 2 on May 16, 2023, and has been replaced by McDaniel. Norton held the position since November 2021.
