The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for western Washington from noon Friday, July 5, until 10 p.m. on Monday, July 8, as the City of Federal Way anticipates hot weather. Mayor Ferrell is proactively preparing for the dangers of the forecast, which calls for temperatures to reach the 90s this Fourth of July weekend.

β€œWe are opening the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) as a cooling center immediately during regular business hours through Monday, July 8, due to the expected dangerous levels of heat,” said Ferrell. β€œSome weather forecasts are predicting a high of 93 degrees in our region on Sunday, July 7, which, according to KOMO-TV (ABC) in Seattle, would surpass the previous record of 90. The City of Federal Way is committed to ensuring the safety of our hard-working residents.”

The FWCC operates during the following hours: Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cooling center is open to the public free of charge, but no pets are allowed. Day passes are available for purchase at the FWCC.

The FWCC is at 876 S. 333rd Street, Federal Way, 98003. For additional information, visit itallhappenshere.org.
